Fallenpaw slank thoughtlessly across the clearing. Her mind was blank, and the mouse that dangled from hr jaw had no power to make her hungry. Through the heavy scent of mouse, Fallenpaw knew Darkstar's hunger. As the lank shecat made her way over, Fallenpaw entered the den with a scrape of her claws against the stone outside the Leader's den. Being mute didn't help with the way others see her. But Fallenpaw could care less about what others thought. Entering Darkstar's den, Fallenpaw set the mouse down silently and sat down next to her.

Darkstar's slitted dark blue eyes half-opened, and she spotted Fallenpaw with a nod. "Greetings, Fallenpaw. Thank you for the prey." she meowed, then flicked an ear as she remembered that the medicine cat was mute. The leader smiled warily, then began to nibble the mouse.

The lank she-cat nodded. Fallenpaw let out a breath, but needed to say something but had no ability to.

Darkstar tilted her head. She could tell that Fallenpaw wanted to say something. "Fallenpaw. My dear friend, and medicine cat. Use your vocals once, and you'll never have to feel awkward again." she murmured soothingly, licking the apprentice's ear.

Fallenpaw shook her head. Even since birth, she has never gotten a word out of her. With her eyes closed; the she-cat just breathed.

Darkstar nodded. There wasn't any point trying. You must never press for something, you can only hope. she thought, not realizing she'd said it aloud.
